Corrosion
of materials and protection against it is one of the oldest directions of
work in the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry (since 1946). In the
Laboratory of Protective Coatings wide investigations have been performed
in this direction concerning the phase and chemical composition of
corrosion products of steel, low-alloyed steels, aluminium alloys as well
as activity and stability of corrosion products in various media. The
obtained results had stimulated the elaboration of the so-called “rest
modificators” with a task to inactivate and stabilize the corrosion
products so allowing the painting of goods and constructions
without
the perfect previous cleaning of their surfaces.
The
items elicited:
-
the formation and features of composition of corrosion products in the
relatively unpolluted (country-side, maritime) atmosphere as well as in
that various industrial enterprises;
-
the significance and action mechanism of the alloying additions (copper,
manganese, nickel, chromium) responsible for the enhanced atmospheric
stability of low-alloyed steels;<
-
the criteria of scientifically motivated choice of low-alloyed steel
produced in the eastern European countries for the engineering
constructions based on the exploitation conditions of the batter.
-
the prescriptions of rust modificator for the slightly and moderately
chemically aggressive media;
-
the technological regulations for preparation of rust modificators;
-
the instructions of application of rust modificators;
-
the technological recommendations for protection of metallic constructions
in cattle-sheds;
-
the technology for protection of metallic constructions in hothouses.
-
anticorrosion
compositions and technologies for clean-up the windows (in metallic
frames) in hothouses and plants.
-
elaboration
of functional additives for quality for improvement of alkyd paints and
acryl dispertions.
The
Laboratory of Protection Coatings has more than 40 year’s skill in
protection of natural stone materials (carbonate rocks, sandstones) and
various building materials against the atmospheric corrosion utilizing
mainly methylsilanetriol complexes (MSTC) with various metal ions and
organic molecules in water solutions.
We
have manufactured:
-hydrophobic
long-life facade paint;
-
water-soluble paint for wooden houses;
-
hydrophobizators for wood surfaces;
-
non-fading pigments for surfaces;
-
hydrophobizators for clothes from natural fiber;
-
preparation for boreholes (for use at temperatures above 200 C) - in oil
production;
-
inhibitor of scaling corrosion of aluminium alloys.
in
the field of restoration:
-
atmosphere pollution-proof binder for copper artificial patina;
-
protectors and stabilizers of natural patina for disintegrating stone
monuments;
-
preparations against the moss growth;
-
artificial limestone - a substituent of Allazi calcareous tufa;
in
the field of veterinary:
-
preparation FAMS for treatment of tympanities (introduced into practice).
On the basis of MSTC studies in other organizations have been carried out
to elaborate:
-
ion-exchange threads for binding of heavy metals and decreasing of cloth
wear.
Investigations
of the methylsilanetriol complexes have been continued concerning their
structure, surface activity and application in national economy. A
procedure has been elaborated for separation of alkali metals from MSTC by
chemical means.
We
wish to collaborate with partners being interested in application of
methylsilanetriol complexes in medicine and cosmetics as adsorbents for
several substances as selective gas-permeable membranes, for separation of
SO2 etc.
